2/20 more

here's a barrel cactus and a blooming prickly pear near our trailer

2/20

Two months to the day away from home.  We were shooting for 8 weeks gone and passed that a week and a half ago.  Tomorrow is our depart day from this great BLM area north of Yuma.  The itinerary will put us home next Wednesday.  Pretty windy here today with gusts in the mid 20's so it is a great day to just putz around and get things organized for travel.  We will drag our feet in the morning as we are only going about 70 miles.  We will get in all the hugs and hand shakes from these wonder folks, hook up, go to replenish the trailer, get through the border patrol check station that is just north of here and end up in Quartzsite for the night.  Then it's to Death Valley Saturday.  That day will be about 350 miles which is all I like to do towing.

2/15

Today I went and bought our 'last' (?) 2-week BLM sticker for staying here.  We will only get to use about half of it as we plan on starting north on Friday.  This all depends of course on the weather at home (and a couple of strategic places along the way).  It has hit low 90's the last couple of days.  This unusual heat is supposed to start tapering off down to mid 70's about the time we leave.  We will at least get in one more "Tuesday Jam".  Those are way fun.

2/13

Still hanging out north of Yuma with our friends.  Flying RC most calm mornings and playing music occasionally.  Staying warm - what an understatement.  Highs have been in the 80's with Saturday to hit low 90's.  That's toooo warm.  There is now a chance that the slithery and creepy creatures will start coming out.  We have a tentative plan to leave here in one week and take near another week to get home.

2/8

Today we went to Castle Dome City, a ghost town/museum about 20 miles from here.  This 1860's town was named for Castle Dome rock you see in a couple of the pictures and on the horizon for many miles (kinda like our 'Three Fingers Rock' at home).  This is a private owned and run touristy thing in the Kofa Wildlife Refuge.  You give 'em $10 and you wander the board walks and in and out of the buildings.  It was actually really cool and fun.

On the way in we got to see where they tether one of the huge radar blimps that keep and eye out for illegals/drug runners (oops, I mean 'undocumented workers')  These can be up as high as 10,000 feet.  They are huge.  I saw a picture of one pulled down to the ground and a large truck looked tiny beside it.

Tuesday's scheduled jam.  Val debuts her new keyboard:

The desert's blooming early this year.  How cool we could be here:

Been checking the weather at home.  Hmmmmm... we may just have to stay here for some time. ;<)
